Chrysalis Society

Since 1988, Chrysalis Society has supported over two thousand women to overcome addiction, violence, homelessness, poverty & exploitation.  Today, women in our programs continue to access the effective supports they need to achieve positive, self-empowered changes in their health & lives.

The positive impacts of women’s lasting successes in recovery are truly immeasurable & boundless, extending to their children, families & communities: healing for one is healing for many!

For over two decades, Chrysalis’ successes have been underpinned by the dedication & efforts of people – we depend on the support of our volunteers & we maintain inexpressible gratitude for their invaluable contributions!

  • make a direct & positive difference in the lives of women, children & families in your community

  • meet all kinds of new people, & expand your own social & professional networks
  • increase your own personal/professional development & transferable skills
  • experience the singular fulfillment that comes from giving charitable service & compassion to others
  • most importantly, have fun!

SO MANY WAYS TO MAKE A REAL DIFFERENCE for women in need & in your community:

GIVE TIME as occasionally or frequently as you’d like:

  • Lunch Assistance: join us for an hour or two at lunchtime on a weekday, help out with set-up & clean-up, share a delicious meal & great company… mentor & inspire women in early recovery!
  • Sunday Night Speaker Meetings: share strength, support & community within this intimate weekly in-house meeting…  inspire faith, hope & joy via your own story as a woman in recovery!
  • Accompaniment and/or Transportation: spend an hour or two on a weekday afternoon helping women get to and from the appointments their recovery and healing require… mentor & inspire women in early recovery!
  • Community Walks: spend an hour or two joining the women at New Dawn for an afternoon walk through the community, get some exercise & mentor & inspire women in early recovery!
  • Skills Exchange:  knitting, macrame, beading, decoupage, painting or any other arts, crafts or creative processes (ie: making soap, paper, candles… even baking) - share & teach the joy of artistic creativity, bring your own materials and/or use the materials we have at the house, or invite the women to visit you wherever you are at… mentor & inspire women in early recovery!
  • Knowledge Exchange: holistic health & healing, information about resources for women, advocacy & rights education, safety & self-defense techniques, non-violent communication, healthy ways to increase esteem, opportunities for community involvement… share the information that you are passionately expert about, come to New Dawn or invite the women at Chrysalis to visit you wherever you are at… mentor & inspire women in recovery!

  • Handyperson Help: lend your Do-It-Yourself maintenance skills by helping out with the odd jobs that pop up at each of our three homes… support women’s safety & recovery through the important caring and keeping of Chrysalis’ homes!
  • Gardening / Landscaping: our vision includes a small pond, small plant beds and containers, aromatic herbs, lush plants and vibrant flowers… lend your green thumb & help us design, create & maintain a comforting, healing sanctuary in the yard at New Dawn!

  • Transportation/Moving Stuff: the maintenance & operation of three homes & one office sometimes requires that large items be moved from one location to another… a truck & some helping hands makes all the difference & renders otherwise burdensome tasks quick, easy & fun!  Let us know if you & your truck can be available every now & then to help out!
  • Committee Work: do you enjoy planning a party? Join our Shindig Committee & lend your energy & passion to helping us organize our Society’s attendance at community events, our own organizational milestones & seasonal celebrations!  Have a blast for a great cause!
  • Join our Board of Directors: proactively involve & engage yourself in the executive administration, fundraising & community networking that is absolutely essential to our Society’s ongoing operations.  Chrysalis is a grassroots organization - it is only (& has only ever been) the dedication & efforts of people that have made it possible for us to continue providing critical care & supports to women healing from addiction & violence!!
